Second Opinion

God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19, NKJV)

It was Mark Twain who said, “It’s not what I don’t understand in the Bible that bothers me, its what I do understand”.

We often find people hoping from one church to another until they find one that suits their particular interpretation of scripture. Rather like a patient who rejects a doctors bad news diagnosis and goes for a second, third, fourth, or fifth opinion until he gets the diagnosis he wants to hear.

God’s word is not a matter of personal bias or preference. His Word is sure.

"The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. " (Psalm 19:7, The Message)

The Way to Heaven

For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?(1 Corinthians 14:8, NKJV)

Some years ago Bishop Fulton Sheen was scheduled to speak at the Town Hall in an unfamiliar city. He decided to walk and on the way got lost. He saw some boys so asked them the way to City Hall.

"What are you going to do there?" asked one of the boys.

"I'm going to give a lecture," replied the bishop.

"About what?"

"On how to get to heaven. Would you care to come along?"

"Are you kidding?" said the boy, "You don't even know how to get to Town Hall!"

The Bible says, "And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it." (1 Peter 3:15, NLT)

Speaking the Truth

A man bought a parrot at an auction after some heavy bidding. "I hope this bird talks," he told the auctioneer.

"Talk," the auctioneer replied. "Who do you think has been bidding against you for the past ten minutes?"

Once upon a time a man's word was his bond. Not any more. For many people today their word doesn't mean a thing. We're pretty adept at parroting what we think people want to hear.

Fortunately, however, we can be sure of one thing, God always keeps his Word and always keeps his promises.  As followers and imitators of  Christ we need to do the same! People need to know that we are not all just talk and that we mean what we say and say what we mean.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (Numbers 23:19, NLT)

Parable of the Lone Ranger

Searching for the truth can sometimes mean we miss the obvious
TONTO   QUESTIONED BY THE LONE RANGER
Vs. 1 The Lone Ranger and Tonto were camping in the desert. After they had set up their tent, they laid down for a restful night. After a few hours, the Lone Ranger wakes his faithful companion. "Tonto, look up in the sky and tell me what you see."
Vs. 2 Tonto replied, "Me see millions of stars." The Lone Ranger asked, "What does that tell you?" Tonto pondered the question for a minute. "Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.
Vs. 3 Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three.
Vs. 4 Theologically, it's evident that the Lord is all powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you, Kemosabi?"
Vs. 5 The Lone Ranger stared silently at his friend for a moment, then said, "Tonto, you idiot! It means someone has stolen our tent!"
